Generate Revenue from Idle Equipment with External Rentals

As part of the 2025 Wynne Systems User Summit, we hosted a featured session that took a closer look at how two leading construction firms used RentalResult to operationalize external equipment rentals and build entirely new revenue models.

This session highlighted the real-world strategies and system customizations BAM and Messer implemented to turn their internal fleets into profit-generating assets. For those considering how to evolve their own equipment operations, the session outlined firsthand insights that proved invaluable.

As more construction companies sought to drive revenue beyond traditional project work, external rentals quickly became a strategic focus. In this session, two industry leaders—Jason Reed, Managing Director at BAM, and Michael Hann, Vice President at Messer—shared how they customized RentalResult to expand their business models and increase returns on fleet investments.

BAM walked through their Re-Hire Program, a company-wide initiative that centralized rental control, reduced third-party spend, and ensured internally owned equipment was fully utilized before turning to external vendors. By doing so, BAM not only created operational efficiencies but also unlocked new commercial leverage and cost savings through consolidated procurement and smarter rental decisions.

Messer highlighted how they expanded access to RentalResult for external contractors, offering a self-service portal that matched the ease and speed of third-party rental companies. Their goal was to enable contractors to work seamlessly within Messer’s equipment ecosystem, improve adoption across projects, and position the company as a rental provider in its own right.

Moderated by James Wilcock, the session showed attendees:

  • How companies transformed internal equipment into revenue-generating assets

  • What it took to customize RentalResult to manage vendor pass-throughs, approvals, and invoicing at scale

  • Ways to compete with traditional rental houses by delivering a better digital experience to external users

  • The long-term growth potential of formalizing external rentals without adding new fleet or headcount

Whether attendees were just exploring external rentals or already offering equipment to third parties, the session provided a clear roadmap to scale strategically, improve ROI, and turn underused equipment into a growth engine.

The 2025 RentalResult User Summit in Tempe, Arizona brought together BAM, Messer, and many other industry leaders—offering practical strategies to drive more value from equipment operations.
